The Mein Shiff 6 is docked at the Maritime Station of Salerno coming from the port of Civitavecchia, next stop Catania. There are over 2,500 cruise passengers on board, mostly German citizens who have decided to discover Italy in this way. The InfoPoint is the reference for many, especially for those who have not booked tourist trips to nearby places on board. Also welcoming the tourists are the young students of the Regina Margherita High School who guarantee precious support by providing all the necessary information to those who disembark and want to discover the most characteristic places of the city, historical sites. “Many prefer the Amalfi Coast and Capri, few stay in Salerno. Those who do so visit the Duomo and the Art Gallery while waiting for the reopening of the Minerva Gardens scheduled for May and have lunch in the restaurants in the centre”, they explain at the information desk. Salerno aims to derive ever greater benefits from the presence of cruise ships. Strengthening the offer becomes fundamental, it is no coincidence that we are working on an ambitious project because, with the airport in operation, from 2026 Salerno could become the departure city for at least three cruises in the Mediterranean. To achieve this objective, which would guarantee the economy and jobs in the capital, it is necessary, however, to invest in the hotel offer to ensure the necessary logistical support. Salerno is increasingly becoming a major destination for cruise tourism,” said the city mayor Vincenzo Napoli. “Until January 1, 2025, approximately seventy international companies are scheduled to dock for a total of 100,000 arriving cruise passengers. The companies choose the city for its attractions, safety, privileged position, proximity of the Maritime Station to the Historic Center which is much appreciated by guests. The duration of the stops is among the longest on the market with ten overnights (including overnight stops), the ships and itineraries are in the most sought-after segment. And the comments after the visit are very positive. The season in Salerno is increasingly longer, with around ten arrivals during the Luci d’Artista period. Cruises are an important resource for our community. The growing development of this sector generates economy, work and opportunities, fully realizing Vincenzo De Luca’s urban redevelopment and socio-economic valorisation project”
