Next Monday, as announced by the Department of Public Works, maintenance works will begin on the road network of the 4th District, as part of the 1st Implementation Contract of the Framework Agreement for the assignment of ordinary and extraordinary maintenance works of streets, sidewalks and public areas in the Municipality of Palermo.
The streets affected
The works will affect via Ernesto Basile (sea direction and mountain direction), via Brasa; Viale Regione Siciliana, link road towards Catania (first stretch from Via Pitrè to Corso Calatafimi and second stretch from Corso Calatafimi to the roundabout of Via Ernesto Basile) and Corso Calatafimi from Rocca to Porta Nuova, towards the sea. The extraordinary maintenance interventions were identified following the monitoring carried out by the technical offices. These will subsequently affect the territory of other constituencies in the face of broader programming.
Lack of compensation
The potholes in the Gruyere streets of Palermo also create inconvenience for the Municipality of the Sicilian capital which loses the cases against citizens who present the bill after having suffered more or less serious injuries or accidents. In fact, there are around 500 files lying in the Claims office on the fifth floor of the technical center in via Ausonia 69. An article in the Giornale di Sicilia talks about it. These folders are worth six million euros in compensation. A figure, however, that the municipal administration does not know where to take. But this estimate is to be considered low because the data came out during last week’s verification inspection and reports a total dating back to January. In the meantime, as was reiterated by the staff and the manager of the area, Roberto Raineri, two or three times a week on average another forty compensation requests for lost cases arrive from the organisation.
This situation has led on the one hand to an unstoppable accumulation of paperwork and on the other to unforeseen expenditure which is worsening day by day. Carpets that explode and remain there to rot among dust and rising interests. But if dust is an easily solvable problem, the question of interests can cause further headaches.
