Trieste: Opher Thomson. Forrest, missing postcards

Trieste: Opher Thomson. Forrest, missing postcards
Descriptive text here

As a preview of the Trieste Book Fest, the Cizerouno cultural association presents the exhibition “Forrest. Postcards of mancasa” by Opher Thomson, from 27 April to 18 May 2024 at the Cavò space.

It is an exploration of the distances between us and our habitat and an invitation to reflect on the different mancases that could perhaps unite us, to transform isolated desires into shared belonging, asking where we could meet, for rest, and perhaps write it on one of the postcards present in the exhibition and which we will collect at Cavò until May 18th.

Where is home?
After years of dialogue with people in very different places, for Opher Thomson, an English artist and director, who lives and works in Italy, it has become evident not only that there is a great hunger to discuss a word – home – which increasingly takes on meaning, but also that these conversations often tend to focus on homelessness.

The house appears to be experienced as an absence, as something missing – therefore desired – rather than a founding presence: longing rather than belonging, longing rather than membership: missing.

Saturday 27 April 2024 at 6pm the Cavò hosts a stage of this multi-year journey-research-story by Opher Thomson who returns to Trieste thanks to the collaboration of Cizerouno with the Trieste Book Fest (29 April – 5 May 2024). read the rest of the article”

The event in via San Rocco 1 will also be a preview of the ninth edition of the festival which this year with the subtitle What a wonderful world! it will offer moments of reflection on how man’s perception of the animal and plant world has changed, and on living the planet in a conscious way.

Relevant and suggestive come the visual and textual reflections by Thomson, his images and notes from travels between wars, urbanization, gentrification, poverty and precarious working conditions. His – and ours – wander more and more through landscapes that are both homogeneous and unstable, landscapes that are both expressions of these social conditions and true generators and germinators of them. Everyone always wants to know “where are you from?” but how many of us would recognize those places?

Forrest (foreigner, forest, for rest…) – the project exhibited at Cavò until Saturday 18 May 2024 – is an artistic response to these disorientations and displacements, which also leads to a “homeless book”Childbirth Songs”, which will be presented, again as part of the Trieste Book Fest, on Monday 29 April at 6 pm at the Knulp. Enter Cavò in an exploration of the distances between us and our habitat. Accept the artist’s invitation to reflect on the different mancases that could perhaps unite us, to transform isolated desires into shared belonging, asking where we could meet, for rest.
In the exhibition you will find postcards – the mancasa postcard – write yours so that it joins the others that we will collect at Cavò until the end of the exhibition.

Opher Thomson interprets geographical spaces and places perceived in an attempt to better understand their role in shaping social dynamics. She works with words, images, maps and sounds to translate these sites into spaces for reflection and discussion. He experiences his research as an ongoing exploration rather than a production of finished works, with greater emphasis on dialogue and collaboration, questions and plurality. His research takes shape through photographic exhibitions, installations, guided walks, public readings and sound performances. Opher Thomson is also involved in various social and community projects alongside sociologists, geographers, architects, urban planners, social workers, volunteers, artists and locals, with seminars and workshops to help develop collective readings of space that can better inform projects and enrich participatory processes.

“Forrest. Missing Postcards” by Opher Thomson is a project promoted by Cizerouno in collaboration with the Trieste Book Fest.
