Prisciano-Terni est Committee, Italia Nostra and WWF meet AST management

Yesterday, 26 April 2024, the management of AST met the Prisciano-Terni est Committee, together with Italia Nostra and WWF, at the Prisciano-Terni est steelworks. The objective of the meeting was to present in detail the projects and actions implemented by AST to reduce the impact environmentalin particular emissions of dust and heavy metals.

During the meeting, AST staff demonstrated strong determination to guarantee the success of the project, especially in anticipation of future limits on the emission of heavy metals that will be imposed by the European Union. The timelines communicated indicate that the project should be completed by August 2025.

However, considering the experimental nature of the project, the Prisciano-Terni est Committee still has doubts, in light of the many promises not kept over the years. Therefore, the Committee, together with Italia Nostra and WWF, has ensured that it will carefully and constantly monitor the progress of the works.

The meeting represented an important opportunity for confront on the strategies and measures adopted by AST to reduce the environmental impact of steelworks. The main objectives concern the reduction of emissions of dust and heavy metals, in order to protect people’s health and preserve the surrounding ecosystem.

AST illustrated the ongoing projects, which include the implementation of innovative technologies for emission control, the optimization of production processes and the adoption of better environmental practices. Actions aimed at reducing waste and recycling materials are also envisaged, in order to minimize the environmental impact of the entire production cycle.
