Today we celebrate Saint Theophilus of Brescia

Tracing a complete biographical profile of Teofilo is impossible. His name is simply written in the official timer taxi of the diocese of Brescia (i.e., in the chronological list of bishops); here he is named as successor of Saint Paul I and predecessor of Saint Silvino. It comes from it the hypothesis that it governed the Brescian Church in the first half of the 5th century.

What else do we know?

He enjoyed a certain devotion: we deduce it from the insertion of the his name in seven manuscript Brescian martyrologies, composed between the 13th and 15th centuries, and in litany texts dating back to the 10th-14th century. To express the devotion of the people of Brescia for Theophilus, in 1595, also the solemn, participatory translation of his relics from the Gaudenziana basilica to the church of San Giovanni, where they are still preserved.

The diocesan liturgical book of the time celebrating the event he wrote thus of Theophilus: «He shone with such holiness that he was worthy of the glory of the saints».

Also remembered: the blessed Giacomo da Bitetto, Franciscan; Blessed Nicholas Roland; Saint Simeon of Jerusalem, bishop and martyr.
