Net-zero, i.e. zero net emissions, and competitiveness. These are the two main themes around which European ports have been called to discuss Paris Conference of the European Sea Port Organizationan organization currently chaired by Italy with Zeno d’Agostino.
It was a two-day event of analysis and debate on ports and maritime transport the AdSP of the Sea of Sardinia is also presentwith its president, Massimo Deiana and some other port system authorities and Assoporti.

An opportunity, this, to analyze the state of health of the maritime system and ports, today more than ever called to face a scenario of very high international tension which has called into question the main commercial traffic routes; but, above all, the environmental challenges for the decarbonisation of the sector, which is increasingly determined to achieve the objective of zero polluting emissions. A transition, the latter, which requires European ports, and in particular those in the Mediterranean that follow the pace, a further effort in the development and implementation of 6 indispensable strategies by the 2050 deadline: hydrogen production and storage ; switching to clean fuels in the transport sector; electrification of ports; integration with offshore wind energy production; recovery and storage of emissions and, last but not least, new regulations.
Topics that find the Sardinian ports “in the running” for the creation of the most significant on-shore power supply system (cold ironing) present in Italian ports, the structuring of the docks for the supply of low impact fuels such as LNG (plant present in Oristano and under construction in Cagliari), and to welcome new initiatives that allow the Sardinian network to keep pace with other European airports. During the two days, the calendar of upcoming conferences was also presented. One of all, that of July 2024, which will see Cagliari host the assembly of the Cruise and Ferry Port Network of Espo, the liaison body between the maritime ports and the international organization, chaired by Valeria
Mangiarotti of the Sardinian AdSP, in office since November 2022

A fundamental opportunity to introduce the Sardinia system to Espo members up close and to strengthen the role of the AdSP in the international port scenario. “The Expo Conference in Paris proved to be a fruitful opportunity to discuss with colleagues from other European ports and to delve into the main themes around which the future of maritime transport will revolve in light of the delicate international situation and the increasingly stringent regulations regarding the reduction of emissions – he explains Massimo Deianapresident of the AdSP of the Sea of Sardinia – A wealth of knowledge that will enrich the guidelines of the next development strategies that the Authority will implement, but also a preparatory phase for another important result that we happily bring home from this appointment : the annual meeting, a Cagliari, of the Cruise and Ferry Port Network of Espo. Organ of which this AdSP we are honored to have held the presidency, with Valeria Mangiarotti, for two years now, with an active contribution in addressing strategic issues such as infrastructure planning, passenger services, port-city relations, the environment and security ”.
