People are thinking of other things and the last twenty days of the electoral campaign will be decisive in playing out the final result. We add that the furious campaign against the “fascist” Meloni of 2022 took her straight to Palazzo Chigi.

When Scurati says he considers himself a “target” after his failure to appear on Rai in recent days, I allow myself to remind him of a precedent. In September 2005 in Venice I hosted the final evening of the Campiello Prize on Raiuno, of which Scurati was one of the finalists. Out of the blue, I don’t remember if, taking inspiration from a character in his book, he said that he wished for my death. I had never met him before and had never dealt with him. The thing was so violent and sensational that I received an apology from Vittorio Colao, then CEO of RCS.

I have survived this anathema for almost twenty years, but between the two the “target” of greater seniority – and at his hands – is me. Why did he do it? Because Scurati is part of that respectable and intangible category of haters who believe that everything is allowed to them because they are part of the “high class”.

I don’t intend to get into a controversy that doesn’t concern me, but I would like to point out that since 12 April television has been held to a level playing field. It is therefore conceivable that while every day – with enormous effort – we have to count the minutes and seconds of each politician interviewed so that it does not exceed certain parameters established by the Parliamentary Supervisory Commission, Scurati or anyone else can read a formidable attack on the Prime Minister without a second reply?

The other interesting aspect of Ghisleri’s latest polls for “Porta a Porta” is that the Democratic Party gained six fractions of a point in two weeks, while the M5S lost eight. This despite the legal events in Bari driven by Conte. The electorate may have noticed that the mess over the candidacy in Basilicata caused largely by the M5s with the door in the face of Azione/Pistella caused Campo Largo to lose elections which if Azione/Pistella had not passed with the centre-right it could have won.

The surprise is that while everyone accuses Schlein of having sided with Conte, a part of the Grillino electorate thinks the opposite (the base of the M5s is largely against Campo Largo and is certainly not satisfied with having seen the Movement’s consensus collapse which has always been the leading party in the region since 2018). Between a copy and the original – Ghisleri tells me – people prefer the original. Memory thus returns to the political elections of 1976. Francesco De Martino, secretary of the PSI, proclaimed that the socialists would never return to government without the communists. The result was that the communists gained seven points and the PSI remained at a standstill. The notables of the party called the young Nennian Bettino Craxi to the secretariat, in the belief that he would be a toy in their hands. And instead….
