The former mayor of Avellino, Gianluca Festa, remains under house arrest. This was decided late this afternoon by the investigating judge, Giulio Argenio, who thus rejected the request to attenuate or cancel the precautionary order presented at the end of the interrogation by the criminal lawyer Luigi Petrillo, Festa’s defender, which took place last Tuesday. Argenio is the same magistrate who, at the request of the Prosecutor’s Office, had signed the precautionary order against Festa and two other suspects, the architect Fabio Guerriero and the former municipal manager, Filomena Smiraglia, as part of the investigations that are underway concerning the capital municipality.

The former mayor’s defender has already announced the appeal to the Court of Review of Naples to which the other two suspects have already turned after having renounced the guarantee interrogation.

In the same hours in which the decision of the investigating judge of the Court of Avellino was made, the carabinieri and financiers returned to the municipal offices to acquire documents that would refer to the companies, in a working relationship with the municipality of Avellino, which sponsored the Eurochocolate event which took place last February. Festa and the other two suspects must provisionally respond, for various reasons, to embezzlement, misdirection, corruption in the exercise of functions, undue inducement and disrupting the freedom of auctions.
