Janitor convicted for violence

The janitor accused of sexual assault on a seventh grade student at a Latina school was sentenced to six years and three months in prison, plus perpetual banning from holding public office. The decision came after an hour of deliberation by the panel chaired by judge Gian Luca Soana.

The 66-year-old man, resident in Nettuno, was working in the school at the time of the events and ended up under house arrest following an investigation by the police started after the complaint from the victim’s parents. At the conclusion of the indictment, the public prosecutor, represented by the deputy prosecutor Giancristofaro, had requested a sentence of six years and six months in prison; request which was supported by the civil party represented by the lawyer Francesco Manchisi who also requested compensation for damages of 50 thousand euros, plus a provisional amount of twenty thousand euros, while the defence, represented by the lawyers Daniele Giordano and Matteo Restante had insisted on the acquittal, based above all on some testimonies from colleagues of the accused who had maintained in the courtroom that the man had never caused problems or aroused suspicion. The facts date back to November 2019
