A clear call to defend women’s rights and individual self-determination. This is how we could summarize the decisive and unequivocal position taken by the CGIL and the UIL of Trapani regarding the amendment to the PNRR Legislative Decree which could allow the introduction of pro-life associations in Italian clinics.
For union representatives, this move represents a significant step backwards compared to society’s hard-won progress in terms of women’s rights and freedoms. The acronyms have in fact drawn attention to how at a time when France is inserting the right to abortion into its Constitution and the European Parliament has voted in favor of including abortion in the Charter of European Rights, Italy instead finds itself in a contrasting position. The CGIL and the UIL strongly underline their opposition to any form of regression of rights and undertake to ensure that the counseling centers remain neutral and professional places of support, free from ideological pressures that could compromise access to services and individual freedoms , the latter inalienable rights.
