The Municipality of Brescia presented the programming of asphalting for 2024. The works should start in June and finish at the end of October: 63 roads – for a total length of 18 km and a surface area of 106 thousand square metres – will be affected by the most significant interventions, but in another two thousand points we will proceed with small asphalting. The investment for these extraordinary maintenance works is 2 million and 40 thousand euros, to which must be added 360 thousand euros for the asphalting of the sidewalks.
«We want to inform citizens because they are very sensitive to this issue – underlines the councilor for public works Valter Muchetti -. We receive many reports and try to intervene promptly. We are often told that in some places the asphalting is not done correctly: when the underground utilities managers work they do not immediately restore the ruined asphalt, they put temporary material and within 6 months the final asphalting is achieved” .
Where the jobs will be

The most substantial operations will be carried out on the Western ring road and on Montelungo: in these cases – as for other very busy streets – the asphalting will be carried out in August or at night. «We divided the program into four lots to be quicker with interventions – specifies the head of the Road Maintenance service Francesco Simonetti -. On the ring road work will be done in both directions and a high-adhesion wear mat will be positioned.”

In addition to the works of the Municipality, there are those carried out by the managers of the underground services: for 2024 A2A will spend 2 million and 200 thousand euros, Terna 325 thousand euros, while the communications managers will spend 165 thousand euros. In total, also considering the ordinary maintenance costs (800 thousand euros) and the amounts for the stone floors and guardrails (260 thousand euros each) of the Lodge, the overall cost for asphalting amounts to approximately 6 million and 400 thousand euros.
«It is very important to plan in the right way – explains Antonio Costantino, head of the Road Sector -. There is an economic effort, but also a logistical one: the city is made up of approximately 680 km of roads and 1200 km of pavement. Everything is in good condition thanks to the ordinary and extraordinary maintenance that the Municipality guarantees to the citizens.”
