‘Sergino Memories’ begins: Tribute to Sergio Piazzoli in Umbria

The “For Sergio Piazzoli” Committee officially inaugurated the project “Sergino Memories“, a series of summer events designed to celebrate the life and work of Sergio Piazzoli, Perugia’s leading promoter, ten years after his death. Piazzoli, known for his passion and commitment to music, is remembered for raising the artistic level of Umbria through numerous innovative initiatives and the introduction of great names in international and national music to the region.

The series of events, which will cover three months of intense cultural activities, was designed to reflect and broaden the cultural impact of Piazzoli. Among the first to be brought to Italy by Piazzoli were Rem, and artists such as Vinicio Capossela and Fabrizio De André benefited from his enthusiasm and his ability to create unique spaces for live music, as demonstrated by the “Rockin” festivals. ‘Umbria” and “Music for Sunset” and the transformation of the Santa Giuliana into a world-famous concert arena.

June 14th, a date that coincides with birthday Of Pitchesthe inaugural concert will take place at the San Francesco Auditorium in Perugia, with the participation of Enzo Avitabile, an artist whom Piazzoli had personally invited in 2010. Other memorable performances will follow such as that of Danilo Rea, who will perform the works of Ryuichi Sakamoto at ‘Isola Maggiore di Tuoro, and a series of concerts which will see the participation of well-known Italian and international artists in various locations in the region, including Mauro Pagani and CCCP-Fedeli alla Linea.

The celebration will not only be limited to music, but will also include a commemorative exhibition in Rocca Paolina from June 14 to August 16, during which historical material documenting Piazzoli’s career will be on display. Furthermore, a book/catalogue will be published which collects testimonies from artists, promoters, institutional representatives and journalists, offering a complete overview of the cultural impact of Piazzoli in Umbria and beyond.

The culmination of “Sergino Memories” will be a concert by Francesco De Gregori, which will be held on August 29 at the Barton Park Arena in Perugia, a significant venue for the concerts organized by Piazzoli. De Gregori, a longtime friend and collaborator, described Piazzoli as a man who “knew what was on this side and beyond the stage” and who “had the gift of loving music.”

Through “Sergino Memories”, the “Per Sergio Piazzoli” Committee intends not only to honor the memory of an extraordinary man but also to inspire future generations on the importance of musical culture and artistic innovation.
