Lamezia Terme – The Catanzaro ASP took part in the meeting on the topic “Disability, autism spectrum and neurodivergence, right to self-determination and fight against ableism” which was held in the conference hall of Palazzo Carpegna in the Senate of the Republic in Rome. The event, in a plenary meeting of the parliamentary intergroup for fundamental human rights, was organized by the subgroup “Right to social and economic integration”. The doctor was present for the Catanzaro ASP Rosetta Mussari, Director of the Child Neuropsychiatry operational unit of Lamezia Terme, a structure that is part of the Maternal and Child Department. Mussari spoke on the topic “Ethics in Function of Neurodivergent People”, giving as an example the activity carried out in the Child Neuropsychiatry department, where the operators put listening to the needs of the disabled person first, applying the regulations but without using a single method, considering broad and diversified methods of application, depending on the person.
Dr. Mussari underlined how “the person is a unique and unrepeatable being, a founding concept of the ICF, a classificatory tool for the functioning of disability and health, shared and experienced. Ethics refers to respect and behavior, translated into professional action such as law, deontology, ethics and morality, respecting the individual capable of self-determination, directing one’s actions in line with one’s predispositions, interests and values. The person cannot be the object of training and conditioning distorted in his own being”. Finally, they say, the experience of the Child Neuropsychiatry department of the ASP “received wide consensus among those present at the event, who appreciated the methodology of the multidisciplinary group of the Child Neuropsychiatry service, which is destined to be further strengthened”.
