JazzAlguer kicks off with 17 concerts until November 25th

The long musical season of is renewed in Alghero JazzAlguer: Tuesday 30 April, on the occasion of theInternational Jazz Daythe seventh edition of the event organized by the cultural association kicks off Bayou Club-Eventswith a once again dense and varied program: seventeen concerts spread over seven months, until November 25thwhen the curtain falls with the inevitable Mediterranean Contestthe competition for young soloists and bands: one of the most qualifying points of the initiative conceived in 2017 and directed for the first three years by Paolo Fresu, and which from 2021 sees at the helm Massimo Russinoa leading drummer on the island’s jazz scene and with vast international experience.

So we begin April 30th with two concerts of the PerfecTrio Of Roberto Gatto (in the photo): al Poco Loco – the renowned Alghero club – starting at 10pm (entry 10 euros), and the next morning, Wednesday 1 May, at 11 to the Civic Theatre (tickets at 15 euros). Roberto Gatto called this group – in which he is joined by – a “perfect trio”. Alfonso Santimone to keyboards and Pier Paolo Ranieri on electric bass – indicating the formation in which he currently feels most comfortable and which allows him to play all the music in absolute freedom. Maintaining a link with tradition, the trio led by the expert Roman drummer, on the jazz scene since 1975, moves in the name of experimentation linked to new sounds, and leads the public into the world of electronics and improvisation. The sound of the trio is characterized by the Fender Rhodes, by the analog synths, by the loops, by the skilful use of live electronics by its interpreters, which weave together moments of great energy and groove with others of high lyricism and sound progressivegive life to a multifaceted performance.
To precede the concert on Tuesday at Poco Loco, Roberto Gatto Earth at 4pm a masterclassesfollowed by the presentation of Jazz Drum Book, his educational book published by Volontè & Co.

As always, at JazzAlguer there will be space for important national and international artists, but also for regional excellences and new talents, ranging across genres and styles, from soul to world music, from contemporary jazz to funky, to author’s music. Among the protagonists, a significant presence of American musicians: the singer Morgan Jamesthe band Kennedy Administrationthe guitarist Kenny Carrthe saxophonist Walter Smith III; other guests arriving from abroad include the Polish bassist Kinga Glyk and the English singer Tony Momrelle; among the Sardinians, the pianist’s quartet Mariano Teddethe singer-songwriter Nile, the Choro Da Ilha Kari-Oka sextetoamong others.

This seventh edition of JazzAlguer will also dedicate particular attention to the valorisation and promotion of the notable places of Alghero and its territory which, together with the more usual spaces of the Teatro Civico and Lo Quarter, will be the setting for some of the events on the programme: the Nuraghe Palmavera, the Casa Gioiosa in the Porto Conte Park, the Parpinello Farms, the Sant Giulià Park, the Roman Villa of Sant’Imbenia.

«The seventh edition of Jazz Alguer, following the common thread of the previous ones, is proposed as a unique and engaging experience, which celebrates the cultural and musical diversity of the contemporary world» explains the artistic director Massimo Russino: «With particular attention to young talents and regional excellences, we will also offer our audience a selection of internationally renowned artists of great interest and quality».

An assorted and quality program therefore also characterizes this seventh edition of JazzAlguer, organized by the cultural association Bayou Club-Events with the contribution of the Department of Public Education, Cultural Heritage, Information, Entertainment and Sport of the Autonomous Region of Sardinia, of the Foundation of Sardinia, the Alghero Foundation, the Banco di Sardegna and the Sassari Chamber of Commerce as part of the Salude&Trigu tender.
