After the meetings which took place late on Wednesday evening and yesterday morning and which saw the participation of various representatives of the coalition parties in the presence of the Christian Democratic MP Gianfranco Rotondi and the regional councilor of the Moderates and Reformists, Livio Petittoit was decided to wait for the Fratelli d’Italia programmatic conference which will be held in Pescara starting today and until April 28th before dissolving the reservations.
The situation is still chaotic and for the moment the only certainty concerns the indication of Modestino Iandoli as mayoral candidate for Fratelli d’Italia, but what has taken on consistency in the last few hours is the name of the Rai journalist, Rino Genovese. The mayor of Montefalcione would be ready to converge on him, Angelo Antonio D’Agostinoand the deputy Gianfranco Rotondibut an opening could also come from the coalition parties with the exception of Fratelli d’Italia.
The latter, on the other hand, has already proposed Iandoli and is pushing for a strongly identity-based electoral competition, while Genovese looks to the birth of a broad coalition, capable of going beyond party acronyms. «For some time now – states Genovese – I have given my willingness to be in the field to try to promote the development of Avellino and the well-being of its citizens. Naturally, the topic is not and has never been my candidacy for mayor, but the project, so if a figure were to be identified who is better than me capable of carrying forward certain values and involving the citizens of Avellino I would be very ready to do take a step back and make myself available.” In short, the reasoning goes forward, even if the name of Genoese he’s not the only one in the field.
In fact, circulating with ever greater insistence is also that of Costantino Preziosiwho comes from five years of harsh opposition to the Festa government, but who, thanks to his long experience among the benches of Palazzo di Città, could count on a 360 degree consensus. Furthermore, the name of the provincial coordinator of the UDC, Gennaro Romei, remains on the table, heavily pushed by the regional and national leaders of his party. Rotondi intervenes on what is happening. “It is necessary – he says – that the center-right ruling class remains united because it has the duty to ensure the city has another idea of government.” Iandoli, he explains, “represents the proposal of the majority party shared by the Christian Democrats” because he is an authoritative figure, “who comes from an ancient militancy” and who “would ensure political management of the city”.
In short, underlines Rotondi, «if there was a convergence on him I would be happy, just as I would be if the convergence was registered on a figure like Rino Genovese». Both, on the other hand, “are showing dignity and institutional posture by having made themselves available to apply, but saying they are open to different syntheses”. In his words there was no lack of reference to the legal matter that is affecting the former mayor Gianluca Festa and pieces of its majority. «The Festa experience – he states – must be judged in the long term, not in the vortex of the news story. The Prosecutor’s Office – he clarifies – is carrying out its work, but this does not represent a criminal or political judgement”. In short, «the councilors who have collaborated with Festa in recent years should not be criminalized. Whoever made the mistake – he concludes – will be held accountable, but a media ordeal is unimaginable.”
