A Crucial Appointment. In the province of Avellino there are 41 municipalities called to vote, in the metropolitan area of Naples 23.

The spring of 2024 brings with it an event of fundamental importance for Campania politics: the municipal elections, set for 9 June 2024. This is a decisive moment for the local political class, with 167 municipalities in the region called to the polls.

Among the municipalities involved, eighteen exceed the threshold of 15,000 inhabitants and adopt the double-round majority electoral system, while the other 149 maintain a different system. It is important to note that only Avellino will be involved among the provincial capitals, while in 2026 it will be the turn of the other capitals.

The previous elections, in 2021, led Gaetano Manfredi to be elected mayor of Naples, while Vincenzo Napoli, Clemente Mastella and Carlo Marino were reconfirmed in Salerno, Benevento and Caserta, respectively.

Next year, however, the administrative elections will also involve municipalities of great importance and population, such as Casoria, Castellammare di Stabia, Torre Annunziata, Aversa, Bacoli, Capaccio, Castel Volturno, Nocera Superiore, Sarno, Sant’Antimo, and San Giuseppe Vesuviano .

In these densely populated areas, the double-round single-member system will be in force, with the possibility of a run-off. This system requires a candidate to obtain at least an absolute majority to be elected in the first round; otherwise, a second round will take place after 15 days.

Salerno stands out as the province with the highest number of voting municipalities (47), followed by Avellino (41), and Caserta, Naples and Benevento, with 31, 23 and 25 municipalities involved respectively.

The 2024 municipal elections therefore represent a crucial moment for local politics, with the opportunity for citizens to express their will and for candidates to propose projects and solutions for the well-being of communities.
