Anti-terrorism services yesterday in Sanremo for the presence of the Israeli ambassador to Italy, Alon Bar, together with a large delegation to celebrate the 104th anniversary of the Conference of Rights which, between 19 and 25 April 1920, took place at Devachan Castle in Sanremo in Corso Inglesi.

In fact, the representatives of the victorious powers of the First World War met for a week. And all this while the latest cases of Spanish flu were taking place everywhere and we were just under a year away from the Versailles Conference. The delegates present at the Sanremo summit took, among other things, the decisions that led to the birth of the Jewish state after the Second World War.

Precisely for this reason, every year some ceremonies are held in Sanremo to remember that important event. In fact, some cars from the diplomatic service escorted into the city center yesterday did not go unnoticed. Maximum attention was paid to Devachan Castle, where the delegation met at lunchtime. And then to the Royal hotel where a conference took place and, in the evening, the gala dinner.

This morning the ambassador left early for Rome. On Wednesday morning, however, a delegation of the organizers of yesterday’s meeting was received in the Municipality by Mayor Alberto Biancheri.

Sanremo, thanks to that event in 1920, continues to transmit the message of a concrete, living and current historical testimony, which still characterizes the international geopolitical balance and which nevertheless leaves open the hope of a more united world. It is no coincidence that in Sanremo, in the wake of this praiseworthy tradition, there is an institute of humanitarian law, which constitutes a point of reference in the debate on issues relating to peace between peoples and nations and the recognition of the rights of refugees and migrants.
