Foligno, 25 April 2024 – Jazz world in fibrillation for the arrival in Foligno of Enrico Rava. The legendary musician, the most famous Italian jazz player in the world, will play with the pianist Giovanni Guidi for the Friends of Music the April 27, 9pmto theSan Domenico Auditorium.

The concert marks the 2024 edition of the “Mario Guidi Award”an initiative born from the Foligno musical association in 2022 in memory of Mario Guidi, fellow citizen who passed away in 2019, enlightened manager of the most famous Italian jazz musicians, the first to give life in our country, in the 1980s, to a previously non-existent activity. A milestone not only in giving a home to the greatest musicians, but also in finding and accompanying the youngest towards international careers.

“From here the idea of ​​a prize dedicated in his name to younger people was born – declares Giorgio Battisti, president of the Friends of Music -. To those who are distinguishing themselves in their training and in the first steps of their jazz career. Young people who in our format encounter the music of the most acclaimed jazz musicians. Just like Mario Guidi did in his agency, big names alongside young people to guide. A unique experience for our Association and for those who will have the pleasure of listening to them.”

The prize in fact includes a double appointment, an engaging jazz weekend which, after Saturday’s evening, will see on stage Sunday 28th afternoon, at 5pmto the San Carlo Theatre of Foligno – Via Aurelio Saffi 18 -, the concert of the young winner of the second 2023 edition of the award, Simone Sansonetti. Guitarist, best graduate in 2023 at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome, will be on stage with the Simone Sansonetti Trio (Alessandro Vassilis Bintzios double bass, Cesare Mangiocavallo drums).

In collaboration – the entire format – with Young Jazz Festival, the event on Saturday 27th with the legend Rava and Giovanni Guidi – Mario’s son – is the result of a musical and human bond that has always been very strong. In fact, Rava himself discovered Giovanni’s talent at the Siena Jazz seminars, immediately involving him in his group RAVA UNDER 21. From that moment on, a long artistic partnership made up of tours around the world and several albums for the ECM label (Tribe, Rava on The Dance Floor). An evening not to be missed with an improvised program that will range between original and “standard” songs.

Mario Guidi In 1991 he founded MGM Produzioni Musicali, one of the best international agencies which led him in 2018 to the vice-presidency of the national IJN Association linked to the National Federation of Italian Jazz. Among “his” musicians are great names on the world scene, Enrico Rava, Doctor 3, Paolo Fresu, Stefano Bollani, John Scofield, Steve Swallow, Carla Bley, Bill Frisell. Collaborations with the most prestigious jazz festivals have been consolidated, as have tours in New York, Sao Paulo, Rio De Janeiro, Buenos Aires, Brasilia, Salvador de Bahia, Dublin, Berlin, Seoul, Hong Kong.
