Experience and CV: the rossoblù’s relationship with the playoffs

“Now it will be an intense moment, the playoffs are a tournament, a lottery. Nerves and mentality will be fundamental, but the team is ready to face them.” Words and music from the midfielder Torres Joseph Mastinu at the end of the match drawn 1-1 with Cesena. A championship in itself, a mini tournament in which it will be essential that head and body go at the same pace. A part of the season in which the experience given by having already lived these moments can be decisive for living and facing races in the best possible way in which every mistake can cost you dearly. The rossoblù, as mentioned on several occasions during the season, are a mature team that makes the CV of its players one of its strong points.

Passed from playoffs

A deep and experienced squad, many players who have already experienced this moment of the season in their careers. There are 9 Torres players who have faced the Serie C playoffs in the past, namely: Idda, Fischnaller, Zambataro, Zecca, Liviero, Giorico, Lora, Zaccagno and Cester. The most experienced among these is the number 14 of the rossoblù who, in this phase of the tournament, has made 15 appearances for a total of 1261 minutes divided into 4 seasons. Who, however, during his career, has reached the playoffs several times Serie C was the South Tyrolean striker: six seasons in which he made 12 appearances and 2 goals in a total of 560 minutes played. Alfonso Greco’s Torres can boast among its ranks players who have played in the direct elimination phase also in B series. Among these there is Mastinu, with the number 21 of the Sassari team who achieved qualification in this phase in 4 seasons (in the 19/20 season he qualified with Spezia but did not take the field due to injury), playing six matches and scoring a goal in the lost final against Monza in 2021/22 (252 minutes played overall). Three playoffs achieved, again in Serie B, for former Roma player Aleandro Rosi. The defender from Rome made 3 appearances for a total of 296 minutes overall. The person who has experienced the elimination phase of both Serie C and the second division is the midfielder Filippo Lora who, in addition to having played in the third series playoffs in 3 different years, also played them in Serie B in the 17/18 season with the Serie B shirt. Cittadella (2 appearances).

Result

Sometimes it went very well for me, sometimes very badly”. This was the response of Giuseppe Mastinu, one of the men who has the greatest feeling for this phase of the season. What path did the rossoblù take during their experiences in the playoffs? Stage of the championship which in Serie C brought luck to several Torres players such as Iddawinner with the Cosenza shirt in the 2017/18 season and Zambataro (22/23) author of the splendid ride towards Serie B with Lecco. Playoffs, however in the second division, which brought joy to both Mastinu that a Rose, with the former managing to win promotion to Serie A with the Spezia shirt in the 19/20 season and the former Roma instead winning the knockout phase of the second national series with Livorno in the 2008/09 season. Playoff final which, however, was not always happy for Alfonso’s number 21 Greek who, in Serie B, but in 2021/22 with Pisa, was eliminated in the final at the hands of Monza. Same fate also for Fischnaller who with Alessandria, in 2016/2017, reached the final of the playoffs in Serie C however, losing against Parma after an extraordinary journey to say the least, with the Piedmontese team getting the better of Lecce (quarter-finals) and Reggiana (semi-finals). Instead, they “only” reached the semi-final: Liviero on two occasions – with Perugia in 2012/13 and with Lecce 2015/16 -, Mint last season with Cesena e Time with the Cittadella shirt however in Serie B in 2017/18. The metronome of Torres’ midfield, Giorico, never got beyond the round of 16. A goal reached by the number 24 of the Sassari team wearing the team shirt Triestina in the 2021/22 season, with the red and whites having the worst of it against the Palermo. However, the adventure ended early Zaccagno And Cesterwith the two only reaching the first round of the playoffs.
