The ideas in the center right of Avellino are so confused that in the desperate search for an authoritative candidate for mayor there are those who have even thought of Enzo Venezia, very popular mayor of the city in the 1980s. He, who as a former Christian Democrat then joined the Democratic Party, felt gratified by the interest shown in him but clearly replied: “No thanks”.
Enzo Venezia was mayor of Avellino from 1983 to 1989, in the golden years of Avellino football and politics. These were the difficult post-earthquake years when the funds for reconstruction also began to arrive. And no suspicion or accusation has ever tarnished his path which was correct and transparent. It wasn’t easy. Then, however, the DC eliminated him only because he had the courage in his second electoral campaign to take more preferences than the party leader, who at the time was Nicola Mancino. An insult that cost him dearly and ended up compromising his political career. But now there’s no need to drag him by the jacket…
