“The time of Resistance is now: when the world is crossed by a great need for Liberation, when wars rage, when humanity seems to lose the sense of the future. Today is the time of the dream that runs through the streets, even of Modena, as on that April 25th 79 years ago”. This was stated by Albertina Soliani, president of the Alcide Cervi Institute and national vice-president of the Anpi, who today, Thursday 25 April, participated with the mayor of Modena Gian Carlo Muzzarelli and the president of the Province Fabio Braglia, in the event to celebrate the festival of Liberation which, like every year, is held in Piazza Grande. Also present was the prefect Alessandra Camporota.
The ceremonies opened with mass in the Cathedral, officiated by Monsignor Giuliano Gazzetti, and continued with the procession led by the civil and military authorities accompanied by the city band “Ferri”. At the Ghirlandina Shrine the representatives of the institutions paid homage to the fallen by laying a wreath of flowers, before the final demonstration in Piazza Grande.
The program of celebrations, promoted by the Municipal Administration’s Committee for the history and memories of the twentieth century, continues on Sunday 28 April with the urban trekking “1944, the longest year. Life, violence, bombs.” The walk starts at 3pm from Ghirlandina and will last about two hours. Participation is required upon reservation ([email protected]).
