The judges of the second criminal section of the Agrigento court, chaired by Wilma Angela Mazzara, acquitted a forty-eight year old originally from San Cataldo but resident in Agrigento of the charge of attempting to sexually abuse a Swiss tourist. The prosecution case is too “weak” also in light of the woman’s failure to testify.

In fact, the offended person, despite having been cited several times, decided to return to Switzerland and never appeared in court. Even the prosecutor Alessia Battaglia, at the end of the indictment, had asked for the accused’s acquittal. The story dates back to October 2019. The woman – on holiday in the Agrigento area – allegedly asked the accused, defended by the lawyer Annalisa Russello, for a lift to the Scala dei Turchi.

Once she got into the car, according to what she told the police, the man attempted a sexual approach. The tourist objected and managed to get out of the car and notify a friend of hers on the phone. The military identified the 48-year-old thanks to the woman’s indications but also to the surveillance systems that captured the vehicle’s license plate.
