As if the importance of the match wasn’t enough, against Ascoli even tradition is not favorable to Ternana. If in general the matches played at Liberati against the Bianconeri are 23 with 11 victories for Ternana (and 6 draws), in recent history the trend has absolutely reversed. In the last 20 years, since the 2004/05 season, Ternana has managed to win only once, last year, with Andreazzoli on the Ternana bench. And there too it was a hard-fought victory, with the goal of Palumbo which broke the rossoverde’s goal drought which had lasted for 326 minutes. It seemed that in that case the red-green team could resume an interrupted race, but in the end it wasn’t like that. It certainly served to interrupt a series of not positive results against Ascoli at home.
The first year they lost 4-2 with a Ternana team overwhelmed by Maistro’s brace, Caligara’s penalty and Baschirotto (goal by Falletti and Peralta for the rossoverdi) against an Ascoli team that dreamed of being able to reach the playoff zone. It didn’t go well for Carbone either (16/17): 1-0 defeat with the decisive goal by himself Favilli (which we now hope will do the opposite). It was the year in which, on the last day of that championship, the unexpected salvation of Ternana arrived in Ascoli, still indelible in the memories of the rossoverdi fans.
A defeat also for Roberto Breda, the previous year. The final result was 3-1: here too a former player scored, again for Ascoli. Goal from Pecorini, equalizer from Falletti (who evidently has an open account with Ascoli!) and a brace from Cacia, who had taken his first steps as a professional footballer in Terni, getting injured in training camp (it was Ternana’s current sporting director, Capozucca, who took him). A defeat also for Toscano in the 12/13 season: Ascoli managed to overturn Nolé’s initial goal, thanks to goals from Zaza and an own goal from Brosco. A match in which Ternana hit the post and missed an incredible goal with Alfageme just before Zaza’s equaliser.
In short, Ternana’s only draw in the last 20 years was in the year of relegation. The final result was 1-1 with the first Ternana Unicusano recovering the goal Favilli (him again!!!) with a goal from Montalto a few minutes later.
Then we talked about Brini’s victory (2-0, Jimenez, Frick). But the match remains difficult regardless. A draw arrived with Beretta’s second year (1-1, Borgobello, Mastronunzio), a victory the year before with 2-1 (Borgobello and D’Aversa again for the rossoverdi), a draw also for Delneri in the year of promotion (a penalty of Rizzoloa former Visa who had played in Ascoli the year before, equalized a goal two minutes from the end Pelosialso a former player since he had played with the rossoverdi just up until the year before)
