A 25 April with inevitable controversies policies also a Bari. Today the celebrations of the 79th anniversary of the National Liberation took place at the Shrine of the Overseas Fallen and the mayor Antonio Decaro also returned to the stop of Antonio Scurati on Rai. «On this day of freedom in which the Liberation of our country is celebrated, we want to echo the words of Antonio Scurati, writer, intellectual and citizen censored in his freedom of expression», is one of the passages of the speech given by the mayor and president of ‘Anci. Decaro then read some passages of the speech that Scurati was supposed to give during a Rai broadcast: «Until that word – anti-fascism – (writes Scurati) is pronounced by those who govern us, the specter of fascism will continue to haunt the house of Italian democracy ». Decaro added that «as long as we are free citizens to gather together in the celebrations of April 25th, we will continue to bear witness to our commitment to guarantee everyone, always and everywhere, the full right to freely express their thoughts through speech, writing and every other means of dissemination”. «April 25 – he added – is a celebration that unites our community in the moved and grateful memory of those who fought for our rights and our duties. Not a celebration of just one party, but of all Italians who recognize themselves in the words and values of anti-fascism.”
The mayoral candidate of the Democratic Party, Vito Leccese, launched a dig at the centre-right: «Anti-fascism is not a topic to discuss. It is in the DNA of our Democratic Republic. Those who believe in the Constitution, even more so, believe in the value of April 25th. I join the words of the mayor of Bari Antonio Decaro who, during the usual celebration at the Military Memorial of the Overseas Fallen, quoted Scurati, recalling how those who govern should always pronounce the word anti-fascism, so as not to run the risk of infesting democracy Italian. Furthermore, I cannot hide my regret for the absence of center-right representatives at this morning’s ceremony in Bari”, he said.
The remote reply from the centre-right mayoral candidate, Fabio Romito, is ready: «On the day we celebrate Freedom in our country, we, the young generations too, cannot forget to express our gratitude to those who lost their lives to guarantee it for us, even if born across the ocean. However, we must defend freedom every day. Freedom from malfeasance, freedom from the lack of opportunities of our young people, freedom from recommendations in competitions. Freedom always, every day.”
