Modena The Supreme Court of Cassation annulled the second degree sentence: life imprisonment annulled, the trial must be redone. The accused is Pasquale Concas54 years old, from Osilo, considered responsible for three feminicides. The sensational decision came with the acceptance of an appeal presented by the defence: the conviction on appeal was cancelled Bologna, there will be a new judgment. Confirmation of the life sentence – now annulled – for Concas arrived in September last year: the man was accused of the murder of the Modenese lawyer Elena Morandiwhich occurred in 2017. But Concas, who had been in Emilia for many years where he worked as a warehouse worker – was already in prison, after a 24-year sentence for the murder of the prostitute Arietta Matawhich occurred in Gaggio of Castelfrancoalso in the province of Modena, at the beginning of 2018. In the past he had instead been convicted of the murder of a third woman in Olbia: Pasquale Concas had killed Loredana Gottardi75 years old, in 1994. All crimes, according to the investigations, had occurred for the purpose of robbery.
The defendant’s lawyer Alessandro Betti, however, appealed to the Court of Cassation raising the existence of reasonable doubt about the criminal liability of the accused. A new judicial phase therefore opens in the case of the 56-year-old lawyer, found dead in September 2017 in her house where a fire was also set. «Now it will be possible to verify what really happened in the home of the injured person, in particular with respect to the alternative hypothesis of a tragic fatality – says the lawyer Betti -. The Assize Appeal sentence did not deal with the alternative hypothesis that it was not an intentional homicide, but that the death was linked to accidental causes.” Concas and the victim had met in a bar and a relationship began between the two. According to the investigators’ reconstruction, Concas killed the victim to steal 300 euros from her and then set fire to the woman’s house in order to simulate an accident.
