Propordenone has identified the three names who will be awarded the 2024 San Marco Award during the prestigious ceremony which will take place on 25 April, the feast of San Marco, Patron Saint of the city, in the town hall. This year’s winners are: Giulia Bongiorno, medicine, Marco Borrello, firefighter and Giovanni Francesco Scolari, manager.
Giulia Bongiorno, despite her young age, represents excellence in the social fabric of the Pordenone area. She has dedicated herself to the rehabilitation of the shoulder, the most complex joint in the human body, and to breast cancer. In the professional field, she was among the first in the world to successfully transfer her research into the medical field, applying her formulas to rehabilitation after surgery. Thanks to your pioneering research in the kinematic analysis of movement, you have managed to make Pordenone an internationally recognized reference center by publishing more than ten articles in highly prestigious international scientific journals in the last two years.
Marco Borrello is a member of Team Usar, specialized in search and rescue operations for people buried under rubble in the event of collapses of buildings and structures following seismic events. Sent on a mission following the earthquake that hit Turkey in 2023, multiple authoritative sources reported his commendable behavior in the research of Angelo Zen, an Italian goldsmith who was buried under the rubble during the terrible seismic event, which shocked Southern Turkey, on the border with Syria. The professionalism deployed and the high competence and tenacity demonstrated by him, together with the contribution of all the Fire Brigade personnel involved, have earned Italy the role of coordination of the USAR Teams in Turkey.
Giovanni Francesco Scolari, originally from Milan and adopted from Pordenone, was the youngest Zanussi-Electrolux manager and over the years he held the role of CEO of Electrolux Professional as well as top roles in other multinationals in the area. Since 2009 he has held the role of general director of the Technology Center which he leads with vision and determination, leveraging his profound knowledge and his passion for the future. Under his leadership, the Hub has achieved notable goals, 4 expansions, the opening of other offices in the national territory, the expansion of activities to the life sciences cluster and establishing itself as a reference player in the region, contributing to the progress and to the development of our community.
