The first train trip from Trieste to Rijeka with departure from Opicina

A direct connection from Trieste (Villa Opicina) to Rijeka operated by the Slovenian railways with two daily trains. From today, 24 April, a journey that could not be done since the 1990s for the entire summer period (until 30 September 2024) has returned to normality thanks to an experiment coordinated by the CEI as part of the European Sustance project, a project to 2 million 10 thousand euros dedicated to improving sustainable public transport connections in the peripheral and cross-border areas of Central Europe of which the Trieste organization is the leader. An inauguration ceremony was held with authorities from the territories touched by the new route. The train will run twice a day. The first will leave in the morning from Villa Opicina at 7.50, arriving in Rijeka at 9.54. The second will leave from Rijeka at 6.25pm, arriving at Villa Opicina at 8.40pm. Tickets can be purchased at the counters on the route, and where the counter is not active, such as at Villa Opicina, it will be possible to purchase them on board.
