Two scholarships for Palestinian students from the University of Siena

In Gaza the bombs are not sparing hospitals, schools and universities, thus also canceling the right of young people to a future, to an education, to a life plan; the Department of Economics and Statistics (DEPS) of the University of Siena has decided to allocate two scholarships to Palestinian students, as a tangible sign of solidarity towards a population heavily and unjustly affected.

The scholarships, lasting three years, are intended for Palestinian students who want to enroll in one of the degree courses in Economics at the University of Siena. Participation in the call is open, until the end of June, to residents (or those who have resided in the last year) in the Palestinian territories in possession of a high school diploma, with particular consideration for those from Gaza. The amount is 15,000 euros per year and will be paid in monthly installments. At the end of each academic year a commission will evaluate the profit of the winners to confirm the scholarship.

The DEPS decision is in line with what was decided by the Academic Senate of the University of Siena in the session of 9 April, expressing closeness “to the academic communities of the Universities of Gaza, with which for years the University of Siena has had collaborative relationships and friendship, and which today have been completely destroyed. To concretely demonstrate this closeness, the University of Siena expresses a favorable opinion on making resources available for scholarships and reception programs for students and teachers from Gaza”.
