Liberation Day, in Andria to remember the past and build the future

Liberation Day, in Andria to remember the past and build the future
Descriptive text here

Breakfast, social lunch and readings. Thoughts and discussions at the table. But also DJ sets and musical shows. All in one day, April 25th, organized at the Officina San Domenico to celebrate Liberation Day by CGIL BAT, CapitalSud, Momò Murga, LegAmbiente Andria and Il Nocciolo.

We start at 10.30 with breakfast, the coffee rigorously prepared with the mocha, then at 11.30 the aperitif is scheduled, at 1.30 the social lunch: everyone brings what they can. Surely on the menu there will be an appetizer with cherry tomatoes picked by Lucia, an entrée offered by Marco’s grandmother, Michela’s baked pasta, Beppe’s parmigiana, fruit without caporali and Francesca’s father’s limoncello. There will be no shortage of debate, reflection, the approach to certain “uncomfortable” topics such as censorship, xenophobia, nationalism. But also music, entertainment and shows until the evening.

“We asked ourselves: what does Liberation Day really mean today? Is it simply a public holiday to spend with friends or is there more? It’s time to reflect. It’s time to act. Our grandparents had tangible reasons to celebrate. They lived through the war and contributed to the reconstruction of a devastated Italy. The partisans fought for freedom, sacrificing everything. But what do we have to celebrate around us, the students are repressed, armed conflicts are spreading, climate change is putting our planet at risk, censorship is gaining ground, precariousness is spreading, xenophobia is poisoning our relationships, borders are being strengthened, workers are being exploited, nationalism is raising its head again In this panorama, is there really anything to celebrate? Absolutely not”, reflect the organizers.

“But there is something to be done. There is a moral imperative to stand together, to remember what was and to commit ourselves to a better future. April 25th is a reminder that freedom must be defended every day. It is a call to arms for all forms of resistance fighting for liberation throughout the world we therefore invite to our Liberation Day, not only to commemorate the past, but also to celebrate our desire for freedom, courage and loyalty to our principles. It is only by joining forces that we can build a better future for all. If memory endures, freedom lives.”
