BUSTO ARSIZIO – Same square, double celebration. With Piazza Vittorio Emanuele “blown away” by the markets, Anti-fascist Committee and left-wing associations this year they meet to participate in the official celebration of the city, in front of the Civic Temple, and then animate a sort of “extra time” of the April 25th celebration with their initiative dedicated to «liberation from the chains of yesterday and for liberation from today’s chains». The chains are those of Ilaria Salis in the Hungarian courts, but also those of the «gag on information and dissent» and those of the «capitalist-financial economy».
Same square, but double celebration
The appeal for the post-celebration in via Fratelli d’Italia is in continuity with the alternative squares of recent years: «We anti-fascists, associations, parties and individual citizens we feel the need to be in the square again this year to celebrate and strengthen this anti-fascism of ours, to demonstrate the need to break these chains.” Signed Antifascist Committee, Adl Varese, Il Quadrifoglio Association, Altomilanese Antifascist Network, Varese Middle Student Network, PCI, Rifondazione, Italian Left and Greens. And so, in the absence of availability of Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, «we will instead find ourselves in Via Fratelli d’Italia, bringing with us the colors and flags of anti-fascismwhere we will be present and respectfully follow the official celebrations and their conclusion we will wait in a participatory way for 1pmwhen our initiative made up of songs, thoughts and greetings will begin.”
The appeal of the Antifascists
For a 25th April that frees us from every chain.
The 25th of April is also this year and it seems to us to be more than a day of commemoration and celebration
should be a day of deep reflection.
Wars touch us ever more closely and are ever bloodier.
Relations between nations are increasingly characterized by conflict rather than diplomacy
The risk that tensions between states lead to a crescendo of military conflict is evident.
There isn’t a day that goes by without injuries and deaths at work.
The number of suicides in prison is staggering.
More and more frequently, street protests by students and workers find a harsh response
unmotivated repression and an increasingly tighter gag on information and dissent. It is a long chain that imprisons the Constitution itself and prevents its implementation.
We are chained to the rules of a capitalist-financial economy that places profit and interest
individual above all else.
It is a long chain that imprisons the Constitution itself and also prevents its application in too many places and prevents its realization.
All these chains take away the future of most people, dragging them towards progressive impoverishment
material, social, political and cultural.
They are, after all, the same chains with which Ilaria Salis is dragged to court having already been convicted before
of being judged, unjustly deprived of human dignity.
They are the chains of an all-encompassing and uncritical ideology and thought that would like to push us in a short-sighted and banal way to choose for the “right or good or – more often – the strong” of the moment or simply for who is less worse.
Precisely for this reason we anti-fascists, associations, parties and individual citizens feel the need to
be in the square again this year to celebrate and strengthen our anti-fascism, to demonstrate
the need to break these chains!
Although not in the usual Piazza Vittorio Emanuele which has welcomed us since 2018 and this year on this anniversary occupied differently, the intent is the same as always: to express the values of Resistance, participation and freedom transmitted to us by the partisan struggle, over time and in the society we live in.
Instead we will find ourselves in Via Fratelli d’Italia, bringing with us the colors and flags of anti-fascism,
where we will be present and respectfully follow the official celebrations and their conclusion
