“Investing in the family, here are our priorities”

“Investing in the family is not only a moral duty, but also a form of investment. A public administrator who cares about the community should do so also because a weak family costs the community more.” The reflection is by Marco Casali, candidate for mayor of the centre-right in Cesena, who in his electoral programme, in the section “Cesena that helps”, dedicates a chapter to family and birth rate.

“Less family means more taxes, because an unstructured nucleus leads the public administration to replace that function of constant assistance which, without the family, would be lacking – continues the mayoral candidate – This is why family support does not it only has ethical and value reasons, but it also finds an important economic reason for a community which, if it supports the family well, then finds many more resources to invest in welfare. Investing in the family therefore means creating a very important multiplier not only of humanity, but also of economics. Our program is very attentive to this theme because we are aware that the family is a natural society and the first cell of a community”.

The left, faced with the demographic winter that is also gripping Cesena, has not been able to provide any support to the new nuclei, both economic and service-related. “The ISEE, as numerous associations have confirmed to us, is even penalizing for larger families – states Casali – we believe it is essential to review the indicator and fully valorise family burdens, starting from the number of children. We then propose a protocol between the municipal administration, the counseling centers and the third sector for greater support for pregnancy and future mothers. For an effective promotion of the birth rate we want to implement the baby kit by enhancing it in a Baby Card affiliated with the city’s shops and pharmacies. A crucial issue is reconciling the time of a new mother with work: on this we want to start a process that on the one hand leads to a reduction in municipal taxation or to a form of contribution in favor of self-employed workers, who are less protected than employees – he concludes Marco Casali – on the other to the promotion of corporate welfare policies in the area and to arrive at a certification for companies that demonstrate attention to the family and birth rate”.
