Arena Europa, redevelopment approved

The executive project regarding the redevelopment of the Europa arena has been approved by the municipal council of Porto San Giorgio, a beautiful multipurpose municipal structure used above all in the summer period for carrying out initiatives of any kind, especially those of a sporting nature, such as basketball, with emphasis on the mini, and five-a-side football. The history of the Europa arena is an ancient and prestigious one. In older people it certainly awakens memories of never-dormant enthusiasm for unspeakable sporting feats or shows with a strong emotional impact and the participation of famous people. When the PalaSavelli was still very far from the dream of San Giorgio sportsmen, between the first and second half of the last century, 30 international women’s basketball tournaments took place in the arena and in 1966 the European junior basketball championship was held there. It was precisely thanks to these initiatives that the name of Porto San Giorgio became known nationally and internationally. Sangiorgese basketball (the one with a capital S) played its internal championship matches there until it moved on to play them in “La Pinetina” and then moved on to play them in “La Pinetina”, the current tennis club. And the decline of the arena began which remained abandoned and unused. It was then recovered for use in minor sports and amateur basketball and five-a-side football competitions. But without carrying out the interventions it would have needed after several years of non-use. start with those essential to guarantee the safety of the structure. Now it seems that the municipal administration, unlike in the past, is intent on keeping the promises made regarding its redevelopment. The project approved by the Council foresees a cost of 180,000 euros, of which 100.00 the Municipality of Porto San Giorgio has already obtained as a contribution from the Marche region, the remaining 80,000 will be financed with urbanization costs. Now it will be a race for the sports councilor, Fabio Senzacqua, to immediately contract the work in order to. having it available for the realization of the summer events, knowing among other things that if it goes beyond the summer the intervention cannot be carried out and everything would have to be postponed until September-October because open construction sites are not allowed in the city in the summer.
