Building explodes in Mussomeli, very seriously burned woman transported to Palermo – BlogSicilia

A building exploded in Mussomeli in the province of Caltanissetta. A woman was rescued by 118 health workers and transported by air ambulance to Palermo at the Civic hospital in the large burns centre.

Several fire brigades intervened. We are trying to understand if there are any other injuries.

The explosion occurred shortly after 9 this morning. It was the same woman who called 118. There are firefighters, police and rescuers on site. It is not yet clear what caused the explosion

Collapse also in San Giuseppe Jato

Part of a building undergoing renovation collapsed in San Giuseppe Jato (Palermo) in via Caruso Spinelli. Several fire brigades intervened. No one was involved.

The carabinieri and the mayor Giuseppe Siviglia also intervened. As a precaution, some buildings located near the building which partially collapsed were evacuated. The area has been cordoned off.

Risk of collapse, homeless families in Pozzallo

Due to a similar but not identical event, forty families remained on the streets in the Ragusa area. The mayor of Pozzallo Roberto Ammatuna has issued an order to vacate the Iacp apartments, at risk of collapse, in which 40 families reside. The provision was issued after inspections carried out by the technical office, the civil engineering office and the independent public housing institute itself.

The note from the prefecture

“The eviction – we read in a note from the Prefecture – is necessary to protect the safety and physical integrity of the residents. It was decided to proceed with a census of the public and private structures present in the district to guarantee accommodation for families who will have to leave their homes which are now uninhabitable”. The eviction – according to what has been learned – should take place within about ten days. Already in 2019 – the problem of the static stability of buildings had arisen.

The meeting was attended by the Honorable Salvatore Sallemi, Giorgio Assenza, Stefania Campo and Ignazio Abbate, the leaders of the territorial Police Forces, the Mayor of the Municipality of Pozzallo, the extraordinary commissioner of the Iacp., the director of the Provincial Service of Ragusa of the Regional Department of Civil Protection, Eng. Head of the Civil Engineers and the Provincial Command of the Ragusa Fire Brigade.
