Messina: Great success for the prevention day dedicated to women’s health

The day dedicated to women’s health for the prevention of breast and cervical cancer was a notable success, given the large turnout recorded yesterday morning in Piazza Duomo.

The initiative promoted by the University of Messina and the G. Martino Polyclinic, in synergy with the ASP of Messina, and with the collaboration of the Municipal Administration, was designed to celebrate the week in which the National Health Day of Woman. An event strongly supported by the Rector, Prof. Giovanna Spatari, with the aim of offering all women a concrete opportunity to dedicate a space to their health.

Since 9 in the morning many women have approached the clinic in Piazza Duomo. At 12 noon, 33 people had already been taken in for the breast ultrasound, 44 for the clinical mammography, 17 for the PAP/HPV DNA test; as regards cervicocarcinoma screening 43 and breast screening 52, 12 HPV vaccinations.

During the day, AOU and ASP professionals carried out mammographic screening, clinical mammograms, breast ultrasound, PAP test screening, HPV/DNA test and HPV vaccine. Mammography screening is aimed at women aged 50 to 69, clinical mammography is for women aged 40 to 49 and over 70, while breast ultrasound is for women under 49 and over 70. For cervical cancer screening with PAP/HPV DNA test, women aged 25 to 64 were involved; furthermore, women up to 24 years of age and over 65 years of age also performed the PAP/HPV DNA test.

A day welcomed with enthusiasm and participation by many women. Both the AOU and the ASP, given the large turnout, took steps to plan – respectively at the AOU G. Martino and the mammographic screening operational unit of the ASP in via del vespro – the visits and screening mammograms of those who were unable to wait and carry out the checks today.

The reports of the clinical mammograms performed by the operators of the AOU G. Martino can be collected on May 6th in Pavilion F, ground floor, from 2pm to 7pm. If there are difficulties, you can write by email to [email protected]. The ASP mammography and gynecological screening reports will instead be sent to the residence address by post.

For the AOU G. Martino, Elvira Condorelli, Maria Adele Marino, radiologists, Angela Saccà, radiology technician and doctors in training were present to perform clinical mammograms and ultrasounds; the PAP/HPV DNA TEST performed by Camillo Carbone and Enzo Salimbeni, gynecologists, with the midwife Serafina Villari. The many women who attended were welcomed by Orazio Arena and Luisa Cucinotta, from the AOU Health Directorate, Debora Scarcella from the UOC Staff DSA together with the young volunteers from the civil service Giuseppe Vinci, Eleonora Raffa, Giorgia Pinizzotto and Gabriele Teatino. Also present was the UOSD of Hospital Hygiene directed by Prof. Raffale Squeri, to carry out the nonavalent vaccination for HPV starting from the age of 11 (and one day), as well as for the risk categories. Cristina Genovese, medical director, Giuseppe La Spada, Miriam Gorgone and Linda Bartucciotto, doctors specializing in hygiene, provided information and carried out the vaccinations.

For the ASP of Messina for the execution of oncological screenings present Sara Cuffari, director of the UOC Screening Management Center of the ASP of Messina, Antonello Farsaci, manager of the Mammographic Screening UOS ASP Messina, Angelo Natoli, radiologist and Giovanna Busà, radiology technician for mammography screening; Salvatore Paratore, gynecologist, head of the Cervical Carcinoma Screening Unit, Giuseppa Scavino Obstetrician, Domenica Auditore Nurse for HPV DNA TEST screening; Piero Giunta and Grazia Gugliandolo, administrators.
