Fracchiolla: “In the play-offs, pay attention to Vicenza and Taranto. But also Catania…”

The sports director Domenico Fracchiolla spoke today during the program To All C (broadcast from Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 11:00 and from 18:00 to 19:00) on the frequencies of TMW Radio talking about who could be favorites for the last promotion which will be decided by the play offs: “Honestly I want to enjoy the last day, I think there are many interesting ideas in all groups, especially in group C where there are many issues at stake start from second place. There are many teams on the upswing, above all Vicenza which is an important team and with the arrival of Vecchi it has brought about a big change. Also pay attention to Group C at Taranto in Capuano who are playing very well.”

How should the difficulties that Catania is experiencing be analysed?
“It’s a tangled situation, but the direct clash between Virtus Francavilla and Potenza will be decisive, there’s something strange down there and Catania can certainly write a page never seen before in Serie C, win the Cup and not enter the playoffs due to of the position in the ranking. I believe that the difficulties are physiological because when you move up in category it is never easy. In the first year in the third series it is normal to have problems, but there were also important signs such as the victory of the Italian Cup. Catania is a team that has values, quality and an important place behind it, and I remember that in the play offs even the teams that struggled during the season can make the difference. It’s a league of its own.”

Who is surprising you in this championship?
“Artistico is certainly surprising me, a boy who I brought to Francavilla in August. I don’t want to be parochial, but I think he is the young striker who has scored the most goals every day. The other player who is doing very well is Sgarbi, a boy born in 2001 from Napoli who went to Avellino and is doing very well. I also really like the Atalanta Under 23 project, a project that I am following a lot and which is giving continuity to the path taken by many kids in the youth sector. There is also a very similar tactical direction to the first team and I believe that the second teams can provide lifeblood and an important signal for our football.”

Is Italy ready for second teams?
“I believe that sustainability is a key principle, we see many teams in Serie C that are unable to reach the end of the championship. We need solid ownership, which can give stability to the championship and this is the vision our football should have. In teams in economic difficulty, how do you make the most of players and young people? How can you work if you haven’t received a salary for months?”.
