Cesena will host the Under 14 finals

Introduce young people to the mechanism of the activity and provide them with the motivation to approach the world of sport. This is the aim of Fipav which will organize the Under 14 women’s national youth finals in Cesena from 27 May to 2 June. An event reconfirmed after last year’s forced postponement due to the flood.

The event was announced to the citizens yesterday in the Aula Magna of the Malatestiana Library in the presence of the Crer president, Silvano Brusori, the Fipav Romagna Uno Committee president, Franco Manuzzi and the Volley Club Cesena president, Maurizio Morganti.

The choice of Cesena

Everything was ready, the teams had already arrived in the city, the athletes were just waiting to take the field. Last year Cesena had already been chosen as the venue for the Under 14 national finals, but the flood forced everything to be postponed. «The Region and the Federation never had any doubts – says Brusori – the decision was almost a given: if the conditions had been right, we would have held the national Under 14 women’s volleyball finals again in Cesena».

The choice was part of a three-year agreement that Fipav signed with Emilia-Romagna which included a series of events in the area aimed at spreading many sports disciplines. Among the most active collaborators is the Volley Club Cesena as president Morganti explains. «The company always has the possibility of helping in the organization of sporting events thanks to the structure which includes an apparatus of 80 managers, 40 technicians, 1,000 athletes and 15 gyms on municipal land used throughout the year».

A club that brings together Cesena volleyball: «With this event the kids can see how the entire activity moves. It is in our interest to go beyond just supporting the first team. We want to create and guarantee the possibility of playing sport at all levels.”

The locations

The event will involve four structures in the city: the PalaIppo, the Minipalazzetto at the Don Baronio school, the gym of the Comandini high school and that of the Calisese middle school. «We are happy to host this event – admits councilor Castorri – the regret of the unavailability of Carisport remains. We were unable to restore it for this event. However, the city is able to provide other structures capable of hosting these finals.”

The tournament

The list of participants is not yet complete. «The last sixteen of the national ranking on a regional basis – explains Manuzzi – will have to play to qualify four of them. Each region will bring at least one selection. Then the twelve best in the ranking will enter and will participate in the final phase of the tournament.”

Finally, around 600 people including teams, technical and organizational staff will be involved. The children of the third classes of the Monti classical high school will bear witness to the experience gained with Legambiente, while the students of the IPS Macrelli will be trained to broadcast and comment on the matches live.
