Framed by the viral video of the car theft in Santo Spirito, the four arrested from Bitonto – BitontoLive.it

The four people from Bitonno arrested by the agents of the Bari flying squad are between 22 and 25 years old on charges, contested for various reasons, of car theft and laundering. They would be responsible for a dozen thefts that occurred between April and May last year. The investigations began after the publication on social media of a video immortalizing the theft of a Mercedes parked on the Santo Spirito seafront. In the frames, the car with the shattered driver’s side window was pushed by a black Golf which later turned out to be stolen. The alleged perpetrators of the theft were driving the SUV and, together with their accomplice, traveled a few kilometers and then abandoned the vehicle in Giovinazzo.

After the publication of the video, the police began to monitor the area north of Bari, where car thefts had become too many, and thus they arrived at the Bitontino group. The suspects, three of whom have criminal records, were observed with electronic tracking with GPS and via video surveillance systems. Investigators ascertained that the stolen vehicles were dismantled in the countryside of Bitonto in a few minutes: some pieces ended up on the black market, while others were delivered to alleged accomplices in Cerignola, in the Foggia area, yet to be identified.
