PALERMO – A Cuban beach on the wall and a bright sky as the ceiling to make the environment of the new Spet-Tc more welcoming, soothing and human. a latest generation hybrid tomograph that performs high resolution scintigraphy with the possibility of simultaneously performing a CT scan.

The new equipment enriches the nuclear medicine unit of the Palermo Polyclinic and was presented in the morning in the presence, among others, of the regional health councilor Giovanna Voilo, the director of strategic planning of the department Salvatore Iacolino, the company commissioner Maria Grazia Furnari and the head of nuclear medicine Renato Costa.

“This equipment represents a further step forward in the strengthening of nuclear medicine to guarantee high quality standard performance – explains Furnari -.

The excellent skills of our professionals, combined with technological innovation, are crucial for the healthcare of patients and at the same time for the development of research and the training of young healthcare workers, in compliance with the principle of the inseparability of teaching functions, research and assistance that characterizes the Polyclinic.

With these environments – he adds – we wanted to give an imprint linked to the humanisation of healthcare services. We plan to make the treatment areas more livable and also beautify other areas of the hospital because, in addition to the quality of care and assistance, the aspect of hospitality and comfort is of great importance in the relationship with the patients who they can only benefit from it.”

Spet/CT serves to map numerous physiological and pathophysiological processes throughout the bodybased on the bio-distribution of the radiotracer over time, associated with precision localization.

“The discovery and development of new tracers and therapeutic radioisotopes, combined with the most innovative detection technologies – explains Renato Costa – they make advanced diagnoses and targeted treatments possible, strengthening the key role of diagnostic imaging with Spect/CT in patient management and to optimize care”.

“This new instrumentation – says councilor Volo – it is the demonstration of the great commitment that the Region with the Schifani government is putting in to give a qualified response that is worthy of all the other regions. We hope that trust in our operators and our structures will increase and travel to centers outside our Region will decrease.”
