Fear ofBarberini hotelin the center of Rome, where the intervention of the White Helmets and firefighters has been underway since today morning, Tuesday 23 April 2024. On site the agents, together with the firefighters, evacuated the hotel due to alleged toxic fumes attributable to the chlorine in the spa pool. At least 35 people were evacuated. In more serious conditions, however, the five people who are found to be intoxicatedalready entrusted to the appropriate medical care: one of them is in code red.

How are the four intoxicated people in Rome

The five people intoxicated by the fumes are hotel employees. They were all entrusted to the medical care of 118are still under observation: they all have breathing difficulties following inhalation of chlorine.

Two of them are in very serious conditions and were admitted to the emergency room in code red. This is a 60-year-old man transported to San Giovanni and a 50-year-old woman to San Camillo. Two other people, two women aged 39 and 26, were rescued at Umberto I, both in code yellow. They are joined by a forty-eight year old, still in code yellow, this time transported to Gemelli. Three other people also have experienced mild symptoms and refused transport to hospital.

Once the firefighters arrived on site they evacuated the hotel. At that time, when the alarm went off, only a few tourists would have been in the hotel, staying for breakfast. The toxic fumes would have come from the spa and wellness center area, on the lower floor of the hotel: these are the chlorine fumes from the hotel swimming pool.

The first to arrive, at around 9.40, were the firefighters, after a report received from the operations room. Team 1/A, the CRRC, the self-protector wagon and the provincial shift leader reached the location.

The officers of the 1st Historical Center Group of the Rome Capital Police arrived on site, in via Rasella at number 3, about thirty minutes later. First the evacuation started inside the hotel: at least 35 people would have been let out. Officers and firefighters remained on site to secure the area and manage traffic in the area.
