Sassari, “Canopoleno green day” for Earth Day La Nuova Sardegna

Sassari In recent days, an environmental sustainability project was concluded with the primary and lower secondary school classes of the Canopoleno National Boarding School in collaboration with Legambiente, the eco volunteers of Sassari and the Environment Department of the municipality of Sassari.

This year’s theme responds to goal 14 of the 2023 agenda: “Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development”.

«The school – highlighted the rector of Canopoleno, Stefano Manca – can play a decisive role in transmitting to students the fundamental values relating to respect for the environment, with a view to a more sustainable future». So in the setting of the Canopoleno main hall, packed with children, a theatrical reading took place, based on the novel by Franco Solinas entitled “Squarcio”. On stage are the children of 2B of the lower secondary school led by their educator Giusy Masala, coordinator of the “Canopoleno Green” project together with a group of educators who firmly believe that talking to children about sustainability, illegal fishing to safeguard marine areas protected with teaching tools and alternative educational strategies is the key to preventing and significantly reducing all forms of marine pollution, especially that deriving from activities carried out on land. Scenography created by the children themselves with recycled materials, panels created by primary school children and animation with poems and nursery rhymes have created that climate indispensable for creating an educating community capable of changing things.

With the cry of “let’s save the planet” in all languages, a journey was concluded which represents a real feather in the cap of the Sassari school institution. A special gift to the children also came from Francesca Solinas, daughter of the writer, who dedicated some very profound verses linked to the theme on the occasion of the project for the second classes of primary school coordinated by teacher Rita Spina.
