The PRI of Carrara renews its support for the master plan of the port of Marina
Descriptive text here

The Republican Party has always been alongside the port and port facilities of Carrara, since the time of Eugenio Chiesa – this is how the representatives of the Carrara section of the PRI who have renewed their consent to the master plan of port of Marina di Carrara – and will continue to ensure that the value of a port continues to be recognized which, despite its small size, was capable, in the 1990s, of earning the seat of Port Authority as a port of international importance as it exceeded three million tonnes of various goods and continues to be an essential resource, which is today reaping the fruits of work undertaken in the past. Precisely for this reason we will continue to support the Port Master Plan currently in the approval phase. We will also do so because the port of Marina di Carrara does not have a port master plan at all: the one approved in 1981 was a program of works, as it was governed by the legislation in force at the time. But a program only indicates objectives and does not give any development strategy. Above all, the Plan being approved reduces the demands of the port as much as possible: it does not go beyond the Carrione and leaves the western part to needs that are not those of maritime traffic. It does so to satisfy needs that have been requested for years and by many parties: from the structuring of cruise traffic (to finally give an impact on the city both in favor of trade and tourist services as already happens for the other areas where ships from cruise) to the age-old needs of Apuan boating (which needs a travel lift and an outlet to the sea for its important manufacturing and the economies they generate), again, to the rational arrangement of social and pleasure boating (which historically constitute a typical and widespread component of our social fabric). In other words, it is a master plan that today receives the widest support from all those who can use the port and which therefore, if it were to stop, would mean having missed a unique opportunity. Therefore, as has happened not only in the months, but also in the past years, the Republican Party will continue to support the reasons for the port, also in defense of the wider territory to which its current success is due, based mainly on the highest level of plant engineering technological level that is produced here, of ideal land connections between the sea and the hinterland, of local waste materials still used today in maritime works. That is, to defend the economic, social and productive fabric as well as the employment of the vast Tuscan area, of whose wealth the port itself has always been a cog and decisive component”.
