Harsh attack on the municipal administration of Nichelino by the representative of the traders of the Le Vetrine association of the main via Torino. Francesca Polvere in fact pointed the finger at the Municipality for “having missed yet another opportunity to be able to give this city and its activities a moment of quality and real sharing. Unfortunately as a representative of the traders I have received yet another No from part of this administration relating to our innovative proposal to close the street linked to the book festival. Why did they say no to us? Because there has been indifference to our requests for a meeting for a constructive discussion on the issue for over a year dramatic situation of the neighborhood activities of our street in which, moreover, it is clear for all to see, more and more small entrepreneurs have lowered their shutters and many others are about to do so”.

The councilor for commerce Fiodor Verzola underlines: “In recent years a lot of money has been spent on commerce with projects aimed at helping merchants: such as non-repayable money for shop windows, radio broadcasting and the renovation of the San Quirico market square. The closure of the street costs 10 thousand euros and does not solve the problems of trade, but it is an end in itself. I still accept the association’s requests to analyze the situation.”

Mayor Giampiero Tolardo adds: “We also tried with an association in Turin to organize an event for the book festival, but then nothing happened. We are always available to listen to the problems reported to us, just pick up the phone and call. The problem of closed shops is often due to the high rents of the premises. I learned of a business that will close in via Torino to move to via Cuneo precisely because of the excessively high rents.”
