The awards ceremony was held 37th Bolzano Film Festival Bozen. An international jury composed of Eva Sangiorgi, Viola Shafik, Alessandra Thiele, Patrick Wellinski and Franz Rodenkirchen awarded the prizes, crowning it as Best Film Ivo by Eva Trobisch (DEU/AUT 2024) with the following motivation: “How do you navigate that thin space between private and professional? Between life and death? The winning film explores these issues with precise and intelligent staging, describing all the nuances of an entire society in a state of waiting. Here no one is afraid of death, but everyone fears life.”
The award for Best Artistic Performance (direction and screenplay) goes to Sleeping with a Tiger by Anja Salomonowitz (AUT 2024) with the following motivation: “Narrating a life. It might seem easy but it isn’t. Challenging the canons of the biopic in both writing and direction, the winning film gives us a complex and at the same time frank and direct portrait of the life of a combative woman and an unconventional artist.”
Special Jury Prize is While the Green Grass Grows by Peter Mettler (CHE/CAN 2023), “an irrepressible and unclassifiable film because it encompasses the complexity of the world and expands like life itself. The director marks the rhythm of continuous becoming through his biography. The film turns into a visual meditation on existence.”
Honorable mention to Puan by Maria Alchè, Benjamin Naishtat (ARG/ITA/DEU/FRA/BRA 2023), City of Bolzano Public Award to My Stolen Planet by Farahnaz Sharifi (DEU/IRAN 2024). A jury of students awarded the Euregio Young Jury Prize (Tyrol, Alto Adige and Trentino) to And the king said. What a fantastic machine by Maximilian van Aertryck, Axel Danielson (SWE/DNK 2023) and a special mention to
Einhundertvier by Jonathan Schörnig (DEU 2023).
The FilmClub Jury 2024 composed of Damiano Faccennini, Jasmin Khlifi, Manuela Monsorno, Richard Niederkofler, Antonia Stich, Josef Tetter and Carlo Zanella with tutor Gustav Hofer assigns the following prizes: Best Euregio feature film to Immer Verzeihen by Gabriele Borghi and Davide Grotta (ITA 2023), Best short film Euregio a Those Next to Us by Bernhard Hetzenauer (AUT/DEU/MEX/CHE 2023).
In collaboration with the Bolzano Tourist Board, the two 2024 lifetime achievement awards were awarded during the festival to Yervant Giannikian And Angela Ricci Lucchi and to the production company I live movies by Gregorio Paonessa and Marta Donzelli.
