BARI – Antonio Decaro will be there. In the next European elections he will be on the PD list for the southern constituency. The outgoing Mayor of Bari himself made the candidacy official, complete with a photo among the children:
«Dear people from Bari, dear people from Bari. We spent ten unforgettable years together. Tiring, sure. Because it is not easy to lead this community, to represent an entire city, the city where you were born. Yet your affection has transformed this effort into an extraordinary gift.
Being the Mayor of Bari, your Mayor, has been a privilege for me. And I will never stop thanking you for this. I will continue to do so, the Mayor, with discipline and honor, until June 9th. Always with the same goal in mind: to work so that Bari is on par with the great European cities.
Europe, yes. It is there that the fate of our territories is decided today. It is there that Bari, with its thousand voices, its sacrifices, its projects, needs to be heard. Because he represents the South that doesn’t give up, that he wants to decide how and where to invest the resources that are rightfully his. A South that has worked hard to reach its goals and that no one can stop.
Someone asks me: “Why are you leaving?”. I do not go anywhere. I remain here, today, more than ever.
Because Europe today is Bari, it is Naples, it is Campobasso, it is Potenza, it is L’Aquila, it is Catanzaro but it is also Collepasso, Olevano sul Tusciano, Riccia, Grassano, Lettomanoppello, Rocca Imperiale.
Our cities, our small towns, our beaches, our countryside, our sea, our nurseries, our rights, our freedoms are built, developed and defended in Europe.
In a few weeks I will no longer be your mayor. But I will never abandon this city, this land. And anyway I’m calm. I’m leaving it to the right people: you, who love this city like I love it. You will be the first citizens of Bari. And if you want, you will also be with me the first citizens of Europe.”
