L’AQUILA – “The debate that we as Democratic Women held in L’Aquila at the Palazzetto dei Nobili on the occasion of the provincial assembly convened by the regional coordinator Lorenza Panei who introduced the discussion was lively and full of ideas. Many of us took part in the rich discussion, including the Honorable Stefania Pezzopane, Rita Innocenzi, Alessia De Iure, Monica Di Cola, Gilda Panella, Maria Elisa Serone, Anna Paolini”.

Thus in a note from the Democratic Women of the province of L’Aquila.

“At the center of the debate – continues the note – we have placed the relaunch of the new Conference of Democratic Women which recently held its congress at a national level with the election of the new national spokesperson Roberta Mori which will be followed in the coming months by conference calls regional and provincial for the election of regional, provincial and city spokespersons”.

THE FULL NOTE

But issues relating to women’s work, the lack of family services, the lack of gender healthcare, the commitment against violence and feminicides and a firm response to the attempts that have never ended since 1978 onwards to counterfeit law 194 which finally recognized women’s self-determination for responsible motherhood.

At the end of the eventful assembly, a flashmob was held to protest against FdI’s serious initiative in Parliament. Firm disapproval towards the amendment inserted by a parliamentarian of the Brothers of Italy in a decree regarding the Pnrr.

The right-wing government wanted to make a very serious effort by introducing anti-abortion associations into family counseling centers, among other things with the support of the resources of the PNRR, which makes the affair even more grotesque and obscurantist.

As Democratic women with our colorful signs and our firm voice, we reiterated that we do not intend to go back and that they will not push us back into the nightmare of clandestine abortion. For us the path forward is clear: Law 194 cannot be touched and we are mothers by choice and not by compulsion.

The government, rather than hindering our self-determination, should think about financing and strengthening the staff of public consultancies, providing more services to families, and eliminating the salary and career discrimination suffered by women.

The democratic women of the Province of L’Aquila will meet again soon and organize other initiatives and events in favor of women.
