The Panoramica as a racetrack, the residents’ protest: “Even clandestine races”

Pesaro, 20 April 2024 – Clandestine races quickly, road tests and rudeness, a lot of rudeness thrown at breakneck speed along the hairpin bends. The residents of the Panoramica road, from the first curves up to Santa Marina Alta, denounce all this, who are terrified and indignant at the dangerous behavior of motorists and motorcyclists who mistake the road for a velodrome. The residents of the “Pano” they formed a spontaneous committee, collected signatures to regulate traffic along the road which runs along the San Bartolo Park and they have also presented a complaint to the Prosecutor’s Office in the past. But every day they find themselves having to deal with an unsustainable situation: dangers to the safety of those traveling along the road but also noise and air pollution due to improper use of the roadway are the main problems that afflict residents.

“Every day during the afternoon hours a bunch of kids with motocross bikes whose license plate has been deliberately removed meet in the same place – says Cristina Cassiani, one of the exasperated residents –. They leave together and return together, launching themselves at unsustainable speed along the hairpin bends. And not only that: there is a car dealer (I know this for sure because in the cars I see whizzing by there is the dealer’s indication) that uses this road to do tests on cars to solve the problem the speed limit should be set from the beginning to the end of the road and fines should be issued, thanks to the systematic presence of officers, to those who do not respect the rules”.

And it is not observed not even there Sunday truce morning when, on that stretch, there should be a traffic ban to allow walking or cycling in the open countryside and in safety. “On Sundays, a small barricade is placed alongside the road with a very small sign indicating the times when it is not possible to pass through – says Gilberto Rosati -. All this is not enough and above all it is not respected. Non-resident motorists and motorcyclists arrive as far as at the barrier, perhaps they look at what is written, and pass anyway”.

A truce which remains only on paper. “But what a Sunday respite – objects Emilia D’Orazio, another resident -. The panoramic has become a speed track, particularly at the weekend. We ask for speed controls and slowdowns. There are even those who have decided to sell their home and to move elsewhere so as not to have to endure this situation. To go to work in the centre, even though I live here, I prefer to take the state road because I’m afraid of passing by in the car in the panoramic view and I don’t feel safe at all”.
