Altamura, 10 arrests for drug trafficking: criminal gang defeated

There was “the chief promoter”, there were the “organizers of the drug dealing and retailing activity”, the “guardians of the narcotic” and the “pushers”, all operating through rigorous coordination of activities in the territory of Altamura also through a “travelling shop”.

Drugs – cocaine, hashish and marijuana – became “sandwiches” and to sell them they said: “they make sandwiches over there…. It’s not like there’s a kilo of healthy bread… … we have to knead the rolls and all the dough… now let’s see what he can do and we’ll cut it quickly in front..”. And finally the threat: “You have to take the material from us”, written in large black letters on the walls of a house in the city.

The Carabinieri of Altamura – on Murgia Barese – have defeated a well-organised criminal syndicate dedicated to drug trafficking. Ten people were arrested by the military coordinated by the DDA of the Apulian capital, some linked together by family relationships. The investigations, conducted between November 2020 and April 2021 between stalking and wiretapping, made it possible to ascertain the turnover and organization of the clan at the top of which there is a 51-year-old. What gave the military the go-ahead were two cars damaged and the threatening writing written on the wall of the 51-year-old’s home: “You have to take the material from us”. And so it emerged that the intimidating action would have been implemented as a consequence of debts accumulated precisely in the context of drug trafficking. The group would not only have managed the sale of drugs but would have had the availability of weapons, ammunition and devices through which to subject those who had opposed their criminal will.
