Descriptive text here

SULMONA – «The people of Abruzzo resemble the people of my island: rude, serious, hardworking»: It is one of the phrases that accompanied the many trips to Abruzzo by Enrico Berlinguer, the leader of the PCI who died on 11 June 1984 during a rally in Padua: a memory that is renewed today also thanks to the docufiction dedicated to him, entitled “A companion called Enrico” which will be on stage in Sulmona next Monday 22 April, at 5.30 pm, in the Bruno Trentin room of the CGIL , in Vico del Vecchio 5.

The event was organized by the Abruzzo Riforme Foundation – which produced the docufiction – in collaboration with the CGIL of L’Aquila, with the Lega Spi of the Peligna-L’Aquila area (the pensioners’ union) and with the Section of Peligna-L’Aquila area of the National Association of Partisans of Italy (ANPI).

The meeting in the Ovidian city – which in the images contained in the work is also cited for the great rally that Berlinguer held there in support of the struggles of the Ace workers – is part of a tour which, which began with the preview last December in Pescara, he then stopped in many other Abruzzo centers such as Giulianova, L’Aquila, Atessa, San Salvo, Teramo. But above all in a prestigious national showcase, such as the exhibition “The places and words of Enrico Berlinguer” dedicated to the life of the former communist secretary which was held until February 25th at the former slaughterhouse in Piazza Orazio Giustiniani.

The original production dedicated to the communist leader, played by the actors Edoardo Oliva and Sofia Ponente, directed by Andrea Sangiovanni, was co-financed by the Mission Structure for the national anniversaries of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers. The creation is instead the work of “Mac Factory”, a spin-off of the Teramo university specialized in cultural design and communication. The contributions for its realization were significant, which came from the audiovisual archive of the workers’ and democratic movement; from History Lab; from Rai Teche; from Rai Abruzzo.

The work is the result of months of research on archive materials on the relationship between Berlinguer and Abruzzo: a study which has revealed, through the story and the testimonies of those who knew him directly, the great influence exerted on militants and citizens by his personality, as described in the book by Francesco Di Vincenzo, who recently passed away, “The rallies and the honey” which represented another important source for the project. Giallorenzo Di Matteo, Fabrizio Masciangioli and Roberto Mingardi collaborated on the screenplay with Andrea Sangiovanni.
