In 1935 the city’s coat of arms was depicted with the littorio head, that is, in the upper part of the Reggio coat of arms there was a fasces with an olive and laurel crown, and at its base there was a knotted tricolor ribbon, which can be seen clearly in the photo attached to the post. Perhaps not everyone knows that the right to use the coat of arms with the crown and the dragonReggio has officially obtained it with a decree of the head of government (i.e. with a decree from Mussolini), after the municipality had requested it, having consulted the heraldic commission, in 1934. With the decree the use was authorized and the Municipality of Reggio was entered in the register in the Heraldic Book of Moral Bodies on December 22, 1934.

At the top of the coat of arms there is a crown, it dates back to the previous one, present in a 1465 diploma of Ferrante d’Aragona, sovereign of Reggio, the King’s seal presented the figure of Saint George on horseback killing the dragon, with the writing in rhyme: “Urbs Rhegina Mater Provinciae Prima” (i.e. city of Reggio Madre of the Prima Province, in the meaning of main metropolis of the province).

The documents from Reggio Emilia after 1757 contain the following inscription:
Urbs Rhegina Nobilis Insignis Fidelissima Provin(ciae) Prima Mater Et Caput”, i.e. the City of Reggio, a distinguished and most faithful nobleman, Metropolis and Capital of the Province.
