During the night of April 20, 2024, a earthquake has caused concern in the province of Reggio Calabriafelt especially among Cittanova, Taurianova and Ardore. INGV has registered three seismic events in the area: the first, of magnitude 3.5occurred at 04:05, followed by a magnitude 2.7 quake at 04:17 and a magnitude 1.1 quake at 04:24.

The earthquake, which occurred at 4.05 on Saturday 20 April 2024was perceived by the inhabitants of various localities, including Ardore, Taurianova, Cittanova, Reggio Calabria, Molochio, Vibo Valentia, Rosarno, Bagnara Calabra, Sant’Eufemia d’Aspromonte, San Procopio, Sinopoli, Locri and up to Messina.
